Running My First Half Marathon at 35

I want to be clear: I was not a runner. My fitness was decent โ€” I did bodyweight workouts, rode motorcycles (not the aerobic kind), went skydiving. But sustained running? Never.

Week 1: Reality Check

My first run was 2km. I was exhausted. My ego was hurt. But I committed to the process โ€” three runs per week, progressively increasing distance. No exceptions.

The Mental Battle

Running, I discovered, is 70% mental after your first month. Your lungs adapt faster than your mind does. The voice that says "stop at 8km" when you're targeting 10km is the same voice that tells you to skip studying or skip the meeting. Training yourself to run through that voice builds a mental muscle that transfers everywhere.

Crossing the Finish Line

I finished my first half marathon in 2 hours 14 minutes. Not impressive by running standards. But one of the proudest moments of my life โ€” because I had no business finishing that race, and I did anyway.

Start slow. Stay consistent. Trust the process. Works for running. Works for exams. Works for building companies.
